Here it comes

The New Year approaches. My gym will be overflowing with the well intentioned. I hope this year they all stay the entire year. It makes me sad to see people start up and never continue. Unless they all start coming at a different time that I never see them. i hope that is the case...I know it is not.

So this year my new year wish is for everyone to stay with their fitness goals.

My resolution is to: Take my dog for a walk or run everynight when I get home!

Sounds easy enough.

I know that she will enjoy it.

So to all you bloggers out there, this will be my last post until the new year hits, unless something out of sorts arises between now and then.

HAPPY NEW YEAR

Ho HO HO..and Happy B-day

Sick, sick, sick. I think i have the flu. Achy, and just plain miserable. This used to happen every Christmas and birthday for me. Somehow I managed to escape the past two years, but now it caught me.

So spending the holidays sick really blows. its so busy this time of year anyway, that its hard to stay sane. Maybe I will be able to stay in bed for a day before or after. Rest is all I need! Too little sleep, too much work.

ENOUGH whining!!

I hope everyone out there has a great Christmas and a safe new year. If you dont celebrate Christmas, then have a wonderful holiday no matter what you celebrate.

Talk to you soon.

OOPS!!

I can't believe that I haven't been on here in this long. I haven't written a thing. I've been thinking alot. That's always dangerous. I've used an apostrophe in every sentence so far in this blog. Don't you think that's wierd?

Anyway, I hope all is well wuth everyone! I wont bore you with all the details of my life yet. Let us just say that wuith the holidays approaching and family and good friends visiting, calling and so on, I have gotten lost in the shuffle. I mean that, I have gotten lost in the shuffle. I must really mean that i was lost in the shuffle, I've said it three times.

I have not trained since my last post! I feel like a sloth! I have worked, taken care of my son who was sick for a week. He is better know. Back to his oldself. this is the first time hes ever been ill. It wasnt horrible, but it made him just lie around. E never just lies around. I called the doctor everyday asking questions to make sure I was doing everything I could do. they said we had to wait it out. So we did. Now E is better.

So between work, E, E2, work, work and oh yeah work, things have been strange. The best thing is that a my best friend is in town. This person is a lifesaver. I hope she is around forever. Now that those facts have come out, it is time to stop detraining. I travel for Christmas so Saturday will be my first ride in awhile. Sunday, my first run. Monday run. Back on track for the holidays leading into the New Year. I am going to try and post during the trip, but I do not have a laptop, unless I get the Macbook Pro. Please Santa, I have been a good boy. Ask my friend JC.

So to al of you out there...

Merry Christmas and a safe and joyous New Year!!

Anywho... Last weeks workout totals are:
  • Swim - Didn't drown or walk.
  • Bike - indoors all week fely like one billion miles after 60 minutes
  • Run - didnt get hit by a car, chased by a dog, twist an ankle or pull anything.

Last week was prettty much a bust. Above is the list of positives from the training week. Well its a new week and todays workout is already behind. Had a client show unexpectedly as i was heading out. Oh well. It will hwppen today for the run, maybe time on the trainer to.

i hope everyone is well. Have a good week.

Friday Morning

thanks guys for the posts. Its always nice to get feedback. I will try to add everyones link if thats ok. as you can tell, it may take a while, Im kind of LAZY! i hope everyone is having a great week. it was busy here. Running the kids all over creation, holiday shopping, decorating, planning the trips for Christmas day. Work is insane to. this is the slow time of year. We thought we were set for the downtime by having the business set up to get us through til February, but low and behold, We dropped the ball again. we are going to have to look at things differently next year.

Anyway, enough venting about work. I ran with a buddy who hasnt run in a couple of months. hes still fit, but it was weird, it was like he just is trying to find some focus for training. he cannot train to train anymore. He doesnt seem to enjoy it. I had a blast actually having someone to run with but it also let me see that it is fun again. Even on the trainer the other day, 90 minutes flew by. I cheated though CSI:Miami. 2 episodes with a warm up and cool down. enough of me spouting off about my workouts and feeling enjoyment with the workouts. I let you guys get your weekends started.

For those of you
  • in the cold: STAY WARM
  • in the heat: STAY COOL
  • on the road: STAY SAFE
  • in the pool: STAY LONG

Have a great weekend everyone.

May the wind be at your back and the road lead to where you want to go!

WOW

Ive been running for the past seven months now, swimming for one, cycling for two. It is not all new for me. I took about a ear off weighed in at 221 pounds at 5'6. Was running 12 minute miles, swimming one length, cycling forty minutes and dying.

Yesterday I decided to have a little time trial in running. I already did them in the other two and they were okay. But my run was different. Let it be known that I also weigh 198 now, am still 5'6, and I love running again. anyway, there is the "Firestation" run that we do that is 2.25 miles long. last time I ran it hard (5 months ago), it took me 20:35. Yesterday, it took me 16:58! A slight improvement. I was probably running a t around 80 percent of my max. It was a good day. I skipped the swim though. I suck!

Today is Run 45 minutes to an hour and ride indoors for 2 episodes of CSI Miami. the goal is the Half Vineman in July. I did it ionce before without really training for it and it took forever. I am in better shape now than I was then.

The goal for 2008 is a full Ironman.

I want to thank you guys for your comments. It makes this blog thing so much fun. If you have suggestions on topics or writing styles, let me know, I am looking to improve my writing. its something I always wanted to be good at. Hopefully as I become better at it I will be able to entertain the few people that have given their time to read.

Thanks again!

Its Freakin Cold

I wake up at 4:45 am. It feels cold. That can't be. When I went to bed, it was only 49 degrees outside. Now in the early am, it is 29 FREAKIN degrees. I cant run in this! Thank goodness im heading into work, inside a warehouse, where the heat hasnt' been on in 6 hours, where it will be 29 FREAKIN degrees. i am the first one in so I will steal the space heater until the heaters warm the place. I will have the stadium jacket zipped up all the way, waiting. Waiting for the heat to work or the sun to come out.

What a long weekend. Thats all I have to say about that.

If the temps stay this low, it a lot of time on the trainer and in the hot tub..I mean pool. Swimming is my worst discipline anyway. I need to live in there. Im only getting ready for my second 70.3. Im already in better shape than the last one. I had to drop out last year because of work and a pregnant wife. Its all good. A decent level of fitness coming into the off season, and hopefully a good level of base training will lead to a successful spring.

Its time to get going, we will see what the weather brings today. I need to get outside, the treadmill is not my favorite.

Peace out!

Wednesday...

OK guys, heading out for a four mile jog. Its very windy out today since the cold front is rolling in. Cold front in Texas..70 degrees. Just kidding. Its supposed to sleet on Thursday. I guess I'll end up in the pool then. Anyway, I have more to say but I gotta get outside and then on the trainer for 90 minutes. Maybe there's something good on TV!

Talk to you guys soon.

Well... the plan was god, the execution was lacking. My running partner crapped out on me. I know I cant rely on others to be there with me for training but I needed to vent to a friend today. Despite my running buddy's absence the run went well. Then I made the mistake of checking my cell phone. CRAP!! 2 clients, the wife called twice while shes at home with the kids. all you parents know that means it is time to check in. So, no crisis at home, but messages from clients that needed attention.

No, i did not return the clients call. They know my lunch break is from 11-1 ish. So i listened to the messages and jumped on the bike. instead of calling them while I was spinning nice and easy, I turned on CSI and went to work on some long easy intervals. All i could think about was that I needed to return those calls. So one hour into the ride, I gave in. I jumped off the bike and got onto the phone.

Lesson learned-Lunch time is my time, people know my hours and respect them.

I know this because both clients asked why I was calling them back so soon, they asked "arent you supposed to be doing ssome kind of ridiculous workout getting ready for Summer?" to which I replied "yes, but i saw you called and needed help." and yes I admitted that I ignored their call as long as I could. But alas, they were more importnt. If it wasn't for their business, my wife and I could not have the time to train. because I work, we can train. I thanked both of them for that while I had them on the phone.

I was sincere.

I appreciate every client and potential client and thank you for your understanding. You make these 12 hour days worthwhile.

Turkey Day

OK. This may sound mean, but i found a group of people I HATE!!! I don't know these people but they are the ones that come to a race that is benefitting a cause and then procede to take every free item, food, stickers, drinks... they take everything. Not just one, which I'm fine with but an armful, some even shirtfuls and pocketfuls.

I don't know why it bothers me but it does. I know its absurd but come on. Do you really need 10 Dannon yougurts??

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving.

OK! Here We GO...

Yaaaaaa. Did not make it out to run even though it was a great night. Family guy was brilliant. Put my boys to bed made a phone call or two to loved ones and passed out.

Last night was another coughing fit. I feel more miserable now than the past 6 weeks. Guess its time to get tothe doctor. Funny thing is I'm actually excited to see if there is something wrong. Last time they told me to take Robitussin and Id be fine. 3 weeks later and umpteen workouts later, still coughing. The only reaason i'm excited to hear maybe I have bronchitis or something, is because my workouts have gone extremely well (exceot swimming) since I've been sick. If there is something wrong, imagine how much better they will be once I'm cued.

That being said, I am not pushing the workouts to unheard of lilmits since i am ill. But they are not easy by anymeans.

Anyway, back to the doctor to see what he can do for me.

Workouts today are:

  • Swim 1000 yards
  • Spin Class 1 hour

Thursday is the Turkey Trot. Its an eight miler around Downtown Dallas. Were meeting a bunch of friends out there before the run and then heading home for the boys to get a nap before Stuffing our faces at Mom's house.

Thanks for reading. I hope you enjoy daily stories. This is all new to me so hang in there, I will get better.

Day 1

No workouts planned for today. The turkey trot is coming up. its an 8 mile run among 20,000 others trying to walk in front of my friends and I while we try to run. Other than that it will be an absolute blast getting to see everyone. thats what its all about anyway isn't it? Seeing friends and family since I've neglected them all year.

Anyway, It is so beautiful outside, I might have to take my boys for a run in the stroller. I'll let everyone know my decision. although it is our pizza night at home! Also, Family Guy will be on later. Still it is so nice out.
